CLUB LADDER COMPETITIONS RE-VAMPED

For 2013, the club ladder competitions have been revised.  All friendly games, both handicap and level, played on a full lawn throughout the season can be played as ladder games provided both players agree before the games are played.  The games can be of any format or length.  The ladder games will be put on Handicap Cards and entered on the results sheet pinned to the Notice Board.  The new Monday competition games will all be ladder games.  14 point single games on a large lawn in the Wednesday competition can also be included if both players agree.  No other competitive games can be included. The Handicap ladder table will be based on the percentage wins, while the Level ladder will use a form of the grading system.
GROUND MANAGER'S BOOK

This time of year, when there are many games to be played, the Ground Manager's book becomes full with notifications of matches needing to be played and does not leave room for Alan to use it for the purposes for which it was intended. Therefore, a new system is to be introduced by way of a weekely sheet that will be kept in a folder on the bar.

Its purpose is for details to be given of games needing to be played, stating the date, time, players and competition. IT IS NOT A BOOKING SYSTEM but is purely to be used by Alan so that he knows what lawns to prepare for the day ahead.

Handicap Team - Steve Reynolds, Chris Irwin and Barry McKenzie

Short Team - David Holland, Brian Rust and Carol Steinberg (Saturday) and Nan Bowers (Sunday)
Golf Team - Ros & Ken Pimlott and Alison Court (Saturday) and Margaret Moss (Sunday)
The team colour is ORANGE, so please try and wear something of that colour (scarf, armband, hat, or something). Steve has a few spares if anyone is stuck.

Food will cost £7.50 per day - covers tea, coffee, biscuits during the day, lunch and afternoon tea

Transport - volunteers required. Will probably need 3 or 4 drivers each day, but hopefully will get sufficient volunteers so anyone will only have to drive one day. Cost to be shared.

Please let Steve have the names of volunteer drivers.

COACHING ON A MONDAY

For all you beginners and people who have been playing for only a year or two, why not come down to the club on a Monday morning from 10am until 3pm and get some extra coaching under the watchful eye of coach, Ros Pimlott?

Ros will be on hand to run through whatever you want to know in Association, plus Golf Croquet if required, and provide some form of competition afterwards.

...where croquet is played on most days of the year.

We are a thriving active club and welcome new members (see New Members section for an application form or just come and visit).

The club has room for four superb full size lawns maintained to a high standard providing first class playing facilities to all members.

A six-week beginners' coaching course is  held every summer from May into June, at a cost of around £35.
Bowdon members who joined during the last year can also attend, if they so desire, free of charge.
To book, or for more details, please contact Charles on 0161 980 6419. Coaching is also available free on a one-to-one basis at all times.

The 2013 croquet season runs from March until October when three full size lawns and two short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.

Bowdon hosts several Croquet Association tournaments each year.
In 2013 these are:

The May Handicap Weekend
The June Advanced Weekend
The Northern Week (July)
The North of England Championship (August)
The September 'B' level Tournament

Spectators are welcome at all these events.

The club was founded in 1873 and has been located on the present site since 1911.
The club is affiliated to the Croquet Association and the North-West of England Federation.
