WEDNESDAY
COMPETITION 2011

UK Time is:

NWFCC FLYING CIRCUS COACHING COURSES
The Flying Circus was set up by the NW Federation of Croquet Clubs to bring coaching courses at varying levels, delivered by experienced coaches, to clubs by running a full day course. The Federation will fund the course and so there is no cost to players or clubs.

Courses and venues already identified are:
SILVER Course at Bowdon on Sunday, 15th April (Experienced players with Association Croquet handicaps 8-11).
INTERMEDIATE GOLF Course at Chester on Saturday, 21st April (Players with Golf Croquet handicaps 6-8).
BRONZE Course at Westmorland on Sunday, 29th April (Players with Association Croquet handicaps 12-18).

If any Bowdon players would like to attend any of the above courses or require further details then they should contact Ken Cooper.
If you are just outside of the suggested ranges and feel that you would also benefit from attending then please feel free to apply and entry will depend on numbers already attending.

The Silver Course is for players in the handicap range 8-11 and will involve, depending on time constraints, coaching in some of the following techniques:

* Split Croquet Strokes
* Hoop Approaches
* Hoop Problems
* Thick Take-Offs
* 4-Ball Breaks
* Constructing Breaks Using Bisques
* The Three-Ball Break
* 3-Ball Endings
* Bisque-Taking Against 'A' Class Players & Classic Openings
* Leaves at the End of the First Break Against 'A' Class Players

The Bronze Course is for players in the range of 12-18 and will involve, depending on time constraints, coaching in some of the following techniques:

* Openings
* Split Croquet Strokes
* Hoop Approaches
* 4-Ball Breaks with Movable Pivot Ball
* Construct Breaks with Bisques
* Game Strategy When Receiving Bisques
* Bisque-Taking Against 'A' Class Players & Classic Openings
* 3-Ball Breaks
* 3-Ball Endings
* Laws Session
* Cannons
The Intermediate Golf Course is for players in the GC handicap range of 6-8 and specifically deals with handicap play (particularly strategies for playing against higher handicap players who can deploy extra turns).
DO YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND HOW TO UPDATE YOUR HANDICAP CARD?

Advice on How to Use the
Automatic Handicap System

If a player reaches or passes through the trigger point for a particular handicap in either direction, that player adopts the handicap for that trigger point as set out in the table on the handicap card.  Please note that this does not mean that the player’s handicap automatically changes as this will depend on the player’s handicap before reaching or passing through the trigger point e.g. If a player has a handicap of 8 and passes through or reaches the trigger point for 7, the handicap changes to 7.  However, if a player has a handicap of 7 and passes through or reaches the trigger point for 7, the handicap remains unchanged at 7.

NOTE
Note 1             If an AC player has a handicap of 8 and an index of 1395 and wins a handicap game his index goes to 1405 which passes through the trigger point for 7 which means his handicap changes to 7.

Note 2             If the same player then wins another game, then his index changes to 1415, but his handicap is not changed as he has not reached a trigger point.

Note 3             If the same player then loses two consecutive games, then his index goes back to 1395, which passes through the trigger point for 7.  However his handicap does not change as his current handicap is already 7.

Note 4             If the same player then loses 4 more games, his index drops to 1355, but he has not passed or reached a trigger point so his handicap remains at 7.

Note 5             If the same player then loses a level game against a player whose handicap is 3.5, he loses 5 index points which means his index goes back to 1350.  This is the trigger point for handicap 8, so his handicap is increased from 7 to 8.

NB: While using AC for the example, the same principles apply equally to the GC automatic handicapping system.

A little reminder in words and pictures of yet another  outstanding year for the club.
MEMBERS' AREA

The committee has requested that the website should be able to publish items of a more secure nature, e.g. Committee Meeting minutes. However, to do this a secure area is needed on the website which is only accessible to club members.

To begin with, the committee has agreed that minutes of each monthly committee meeting can be viewed after ratification by the committee at the following meeting a month later. So, January's minutes will be made available on this website after the next meeting on 13th February.

Club members who would like access to this new area should request a user name and password by emailing the website at info@bowdoncroquet.co.uk. A user name and password will then be sent in return. If preferred, members can choose their own password (from 5 to 8 alphanumeric characters, uppercase and lowercase) by including it in the email. The user name (which will be in lowercase) will then sent back to the member.

This system will only be secure if members' user names and passwords are not divulged to anybody else.

Any suggestions for further ideas of what to place in the Members' Area can be requested for committee approval.

The 2012 croquet season runs from March until October when three full size lawns and two short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.
