BREAKING NEWS ARCHIVE 29/06/03 -  LONGMAN CUP VERSUS TYNESIDE

When Bowdon crossed the River Tyne to play the wily Geordies,
Optimism was running high with photos of past glories.

By lunchtime, already three-nil down, still sporting hopeful smiles.
By hometime, Wilko’s averaged one hoop per hundred miles.

Lorna & Wilko’s morning doubles, no chance of running rover.
Lost twenty-six in half an hour! They’d blinked and it was over.

Winn was done by Wrighty Don, by two hoops in the singles.
To think he could have stayed in bed with fizzy pop and Pringles.

Richard G, he fared not well, no chance to be a peeler,
Thrashed to tune of minus ten, by a lady known as Sheila.

The afternoon was much the same, in three of four games beaten.
Was it because of all their bisques, or had we over-eaten?

The Longman’s dream, it is no more - please spare us words and lashes.
For we will rise again next year…

A phoenix from the ashes!

Longman “I’m telling you, Richard – it’s true. At 4 o’clock every Sunday we have to stop our break to hide from the Yellow  Spring Monster.”
