BREAKING NEWS ARCHIVE 10/08/03 - BOWDON BEATEN BY SOUTHPORT IN ADVANCED LEAGUE

REVENGE IS SWEET AND SWIFT .........................

On Sunday Southport turned the tables (following the Secretary's Shield win the previous day) with a fine 5-1 home win in the Advanced league. Early morning torrential rain delayed the start by an hour and in the doubles the first match went to Bowdon with Ken Cooper and Sylvia Steer winning +26. An interesting finish in which Sylvia did a 'grievous ' peg out of Ken's ball and followed it next turn with a brilliant peg out from the boundary. In the other doubles John Wastell and Mike Steer narrowly lost a low-scoring encounter -2 on time (12-10). It was all Southport in the afternoon, however, with Ken losing -4 to John Haslam, Sylivia -1 on time to Carol Lewis, Mike -17 to Keith Roberts and John -21 to Barbara Haslam.
