ANDREW WINN'S
CLEAN SWEEP IN SOUTH AFRICA!!
Andrew Win travelled
to South Africa to take part in the Johannesburg Country Club's Centenary
tournaments and finished up winning both the adavanced and handicap competitions.
After a tense 3.5 hour battle, Andrew Winn eventually beat Victor Dladla
+8 to claim the Culligan Trophy (on Saturday 23/02/2007) . Both players were
nervous and broke down during several breaks, but a full lawn hit-in from
Andrew helped to bring the proceedings to a close, much to the appreciation
of the hot and tired onlookers.
Earlier in the day, Andrew won an equally
tense final in the handicap, +7, against Tony Whately from Glasgow, to
win the Cherryl Coulson Trophy.
Andrew
had been in fine form all week, winning 10 out of 10 matches in the advanced
and handicap tournaments to get to the finals.
The
club has wonderful flat and evenly paced lawns, about 11 seconds on the
'Plummer Scale', with a tough thick grass which causes immense pull - Andrew
misjudged a penult peel in a triple attempt
by over half a ball width - over only 18 inches
distance!
