Cheshire beat Bedforshire 2-1 and lost to Surrey 1-2 on the last day to finish third in the Inter-County Championships. The pairings of David Maugham and Brian Storey, Ian Lines and Ken Cooper plus Colin Irwin and Lawrence Whittaker won 7 games out of 10. Lancashire were relegated and the Channel Islands team, with Richard Griffiths making his debut, won promotion to Division 1.
