WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005

Reg Bamford is World Champion!!
The World Championships were completed on Sunday, 14th August. The games were played at Cheltenham, Bristol, Nailsea and Edgbaston where 80 of the top players in the world played in 8 blocks of 10. Seven Bowdon members took part: Chris Clarke, David Maugham, Keith Aiton, Colin Irwin, Ian Lines, Jenny Williams and Ailsa Lines.
The block stage saw  David (8 out of 9), Chris (9/9), Keith (8/9) and Ian (via the play-offs) qualify for the last 32 knock-out stage. Jenny (5/9), Ailsa (2/9) and Colin (5/9) did not make it - Colin losing in a block play-off to Jerry Stark (USA).
In round 1 of the knock-out stages David beat Simon Williams (IRE) 2-0 and Keith beat Jerry Stark 2-0. Ian lost -23, -26 to former world champion Reg Bamford (RSA) and Chris went out against Australian Ken Bald.
In
round 2, David was knocked out by James Death +26tp, -26tp, +26tp. Keith beat Ed Duckwoth +16, +4 but lost to Robert Fulford  in the quarter-finals.
The results of the semi-finals were:
Fulford (Eng) beat Death (Eng) +24tp, 26tp, +5otp, Bamford (RSA) beat Kirby (Sco) +26sxp, +5tp, +26qp
The final score was Reg Bamford beat Robert Fulford +17tp, +26sxp, +17sxp
