NW FEDERATION MILLENNIUM EVENTS
Entries to the NW Federation are made by clubs but the selection of players varies between clubs. If you would like to be considered to represent Bowdon then please contact Croquet Secretary Ian Lines or Honorary Secretary John Saxby.
For a list of events please click here .
WHY NOT TAKE THE REFEREES EXAM?

Christine Irwin and Barry Keen are planning to hold a referee's examination day at the club on either the weekend of 13th/14th March or 20th/21st March, whichever date has the greatest demand, so why don't you write to Christine and let her know your preference. There will not be a Laws Course this year so get your Laws Book out and do some revision - the club needs some more referees!
LAWNS REMAIN CLOSED
The lawns will have to be kept closed for the forseeable future as we have a new outbreak of fusarium.

WINTER ONE-BALL & SHORT LEAGUE COMPETITIONS

The lawns are now closed for Association and Golf Croquet matches. However, a limited amount of lawn space will be available throughout the winter when there will be at least two short lawns available everyday, weather permitting.

A series of 1-ball croquet days will be arranged by Alan Mayne to go through the winter months as well as an ongoing Short Croquet league:
          - every Wednesday there will be a 1-ball handicap competition using full lawns, meeting at 10.30am for an 11.00am start ;  the overall
result of the Winter Wednesday 1-ball competition will be assessed on the best 6 results throughout the winter.

          - there will be a mixture of handicap and advanced 1-ball competitions on certain weekends, meeting at 10.30am for an 11.00am start:
                               * Handicap: Saturday 24th October, Sunday 29th November
                               * Advanced/Handicap: Sunday 8th November, Sunday 13th December
                               * Festive Season: Sunday 27th December, Saturday 2nd January

          - 2 Short Croquet leagues will be ongoing throughout November to February with the finals in March, played whenever games can be
            conveniently arranged.

Club Handbook for 2010

Club Handbook for 2010, correct
handicaps.
The Club Handbook will be published in March, and now is the time to get your handicap right if it has changed since last season's Handbook was printed.    New members who joined in 2009 should take no action.

Your own card is the only true record, the Handbook is just a guide to potential opponents as to your class of play.
Clang has started the process by listing all the handicaps known to have changed during the season, and all these changes are now in the Membership Secretary's record for the next Handbook.

What you can do
if you want the right figure in the 2010 Handbook.   ( NOTE:  It is not compulsory to do anything ! )
You should contact Martin (0161 928 0530) with your correct handicap figure if any of the following circumstances apply:
1.     If the Clang list has the wrong figure for your latest handicap.
2.     If your handicap has changed since last year and is not listed in the November Clang.
COME ALONG TO THE 'YOUTH CLUB' EVERY OTHER FRIDAY

The next 'Youth Club' will be tonight followed by Friday, 19th February.

You are invited to come along to the club house at around 7pm to play pool, shove-ha'penny, cards or just have a sociable drink.

Please contact Pam Sword if you require more details.

See you there!

CANASTA AND SCRABBLE AT THE CLUB
To take the place of croquet over the winter months, why not come down and play Canasta and/or Scrabble?
Even if you've never played before, there will be people there who can teach you.

On Tuesdays, Canasta sessions will be held in the afternoon.
Bring your own lunch down to the club at around 12.00pm; play begins at 1pm and goes on until about 4pm.

On Thursdays, two sessions of Scrabble will be played.
Game 1 starts at 11am, then a break for lunch at about 12.30pm, before playing game 2 at around 1pm.
