SWINGING SUNDAY RETURNS, Sunday 20th May

These sessions return, with some short croquet, in a relaxed environment this Sunday.
This is the first session of the year, open to all high bisquers, especially last year's beginners.
Play consists of 2 games, each 1 hour long, starting at 10.15am and finishing about 12.30pm.
An ideal opportunity to get some practise playing competitively in a friendly, not too serious environment.
There will be a Swinging Sunday every month this season, so get the dates in your diary.
Dates are: 24th June, 29th July, 12th August and 2nd September.

Please contact Steve Reynolds for details or just turn up!
SPRING BANK HOLIDAY COMPETITION

BEGINNERS' COURSE, Tuesday 15th May

Our annual drive to recruit new members began last tonight with the first lesson on the 6-week Beginners' Course. Although it was a nice sunny but cold evening, the damage had been done during the day with the wet and blustery weather and only 9 people turned up, most of whom were from the Taster Days. Let us hope that more people come along next week or else this will go on record as being the lowest number of people ever recruited.
NWF Millennium Short Croquet Tournament at Fylde, 13th May

Neil Thompson           Iman van den Bout
Neil Thompson and Iman van den Bout represented Bowdon at the recent NW Federation Millennium Short Croquet tournament at Fylde.
There were 12 players divided into 3 groups of 4. Iman lost his first 2 group matches against opponents from Fylde and Pendle but won his third match against a player from Bury. He did not qualify for the semi finals but played 2 further matches in the afternoon against other non-qualifiers and won both games.  Neil won his 3 group matches against opponents from Southport, Pendle and Penrith and so qualified for the semi-final where he beat John Henderson from Penrith. Unfortunately he saved his worst performance of the day for the final and blew up big time by thinking hoop 3 was hoop 1, losing to Jennifer Mawdsley from Southport. All in all the day went well. The hospitality at Fylde was good and, apart from one lawn which was a bit heavy, the lawns were better than the guys had expected from comments made to them beforehand.  Overall, it was a good experience for them both in tournament play.

Welcome to the Bowdon Croquet Club 2012....

....where croquet is played on most days of the year.

We are a thriving active club and welcome new members (see New Members section for an application form or just come and visit).

The club has room for four superb full size lawns maintained to a high standard providing first class playing facilities to all members.

A six-week beginners' coaching course is  held every summer from May into June, at a cost of around £35.
Bowdon members who joined during the last year can also attend, if they so desire, free of charge.
To book, or for more details, please contact Iman on 07511 232 893. Coaching is also available free on a one-to-one basis at all times.

The 2012 croquet season runs from March until October when three full size lawns and two short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.

Bowdon hosts several Croquet Association tournaments each year.
In 2012 these are:

The May Handicap Weekend
The June Advanced Weekend
The Northern Week in July
The North of England Championship in August
The September 'B' level Tournament

Spectators are welcome at all these events.

The club was founded in 1873 and has been located on the present site since 1911.
The club is affiliated to the Croquet Association and the North-West of England Federation.
