WILD WEDNESDAY
This year's Wild Wednesday was won today by Mike Steer with 84 points, runner-up was Lorna Frost on 81 points and third was Barry McKenzie on 78.

  
Colin Wild presents the Wild Wednesday trophy to Mike Steer and on the right the first, second and third.

 MARK AVERY WINS THE NORTH OF ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

 The North of England Championship took place at Bowdon last weekend and was won by world no.20 Mark Avery beating Bowdon's Keith Aiton in the final -26tp, +17tp, +24qp, +20.

This was Mark's second win of the trophy, the first being in 1982 as a 16-year old.

For information on free informal Advanced play coaching for A and B Class players at North West clubs, please click here.

Pods provides a focus for local A and B class players to get together and improve their game.  Each session will be two to three hours long covering a particular topic e.g. lift leaves, openings, pegged-out endings.  If you've not already signed up then go to the members area of the CA website to register.

Future dates are: 9th September and 14th October.

NOVICES TOURNAMENT 2014

For the Fotiadi Novices Silver Challenge Bowl

This will be held on Saturday 13th September. It is open to all new members and those who did the beginners' course again this year but who have not played in the competition before or in any other club competition.


Please sign the list on the main croquet notice board by Wednesday 10th September if you wish to enter.


Minimum number of entrants required – 4

 

Games will be 14 point on a short lawn, 10 bisques each.

 

The start time and format of the competition will depend on the number of entries received. 

TUITION ON MONDAYS


IF YOU'RE NEW TO THE GAME THEN COME ALONG ON MONDAYS FOR A TUITION SESSION WITH ROS PIMLOTT.

ASSOCIATION CROQUET IS PLAYED IN THE MORNINGS (10 UNTIL 12) AND GOLF IN THE AFTERNOONS (1 UNTIL 3)
Bowdon is known for the quality of its lawns. To keep the standard high it is essential that EVERYBODY adheres to the Lawn Rota, the intention of which is to even out the usage of the lawns. Details can be found on the notice board by the front door.
Welcome to Bowdon Croquet Club 2014...

...where croquet is played on most days of the year.

We are a thriving active club and welcome new members (see New Members section for an application form or just come and visit).

The club has room for four superb full size lawns maintained to a high standard providing first class playing facilities to all members.

A six-week beginners' coaching course is  held every summer from May into June, at a cost of around £35.
Bowdon members who joined during the last year can also attend, if they so desire, free of charge.
 To book, or for more details, please contact Charles on 0161 980 6419. Coaching is also available free on a one-to-one basis at all times.

The 2014 croquet season runs from March until October when three full size lawns and two short lawns are laid out.
Limited play is permitted during the winter months.

Bowdon hosts several Croquet Association tournaments each year.
In 2014 these are:

The May Handicap Weekend
The June Advanced Weekend
The Northern Week (July)
The North of England Championship (August)
The September 'B' level Tournament

Spectators are welcome at all these events.

The club was founded in 1873 and has been located on the present site since 1911.
The club is affiliated to the Croquet Association and the North-West of England Federation.
